Meeting Description: The contact between the majority, minority and minor languages for centuries in India together shaped a complex relationship among the languages with regard to intra and inter group communication patterns as well as it effected commonness among languages. The communities of minority and minor languages are experiencing various kinds of socio-politico-linguistic pressures from the ''major or dominant'' languages at one side in all spheres of life such as education, administration, business etc., and at the other side, these communities are increasingly conscious of their identity and necessity for resurgence. The mass media and social media give ample opportunities to the linguistic minorities of the VIII scheduled languages (even isolated small groups) whereas the tribal/minor languages are not having this opportunity. Keeping this context in the background, the seminar aims at giving a platform to linguists interested in minority and minor language to deliberate on issues with current perspective.

There will be plenary talks in all three days in addition to secessions.
Linguistic Subfield: Sociolinguistics
LL Issue: 28.81
